It was Valentine’s Day. While waiting for his Uber ride, the teenager texted a former girlfriend “You will always know I love you.”

When they arrived at his destination, the young man gave the Uber driver explicit directions on where to drop him off. He knew exactly where he wanted to go.

Picking up his backpack and black duffel bag, the 19 year-old walked towards the school from where he had been expelled the previous year.

One Wednesday evening, a young man began the drive from Columbia SC to Charleston SC, normally a two hour drive. He arrived in 90 minutes. It would seem he was in a hurry.

Before walking into the Bible Study Class, he looked down and saw what looked like a black fanny pack. It was awkwardly sitting looped to his belt on the front of his pants for all to see. He had meant to hide it before entering.

Looking up, a Reverend called out, “Pastor, we have a visitor.”

A nursing student drove to a town 10 minutes from his home in Southern California. He planned to visit a House of Worship as members of the congregation were gathering to celebrate a holiday. The members there proudly proclaimed “Everyone is welcome and accepted, regardless of background, knowledge, or affiliation.”

As the young man approached the Center he found the doors wide open.

An Army Specialist, sworn to protect his country through his military service, logged into his social media account and began a conversation with one of his followers.

He planned to share the knowledge and expertise he had gained in the military.

“Hey brother, [I heard] you may have a use for my knowledge and told me to contact you. What’s up?”

In this very special Bonus Episode of Stoppable, host Humera Khan engages in an in-depth conversation with Dr. Erin Saltman, the Director of Programming at the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT). Dr. Saltman talks about her time embedded in a youth camp in Hungary for the ultra right wing political party Jobbik (designated a “neo-Nazi Party” by the European Jewish Congress).

Dr. Saltman, the former head of Counter-terrorism and Dangerous Organizations Policy for Europe, Middle East and Africa for Facebook also discusses the important work the members of GIFCT are doing to “prevent terrorists and violent extremists from exploiting digital platforms” and about the term “borderline content” that is now increasingly come up in discussions. Three buddies from a tiny town in Illinois drive hundreds of miles to Bloomington, Minnesota, home of the Mall of America. A little before sunrise, they turned into the parking lot of a house of worship where people were gathering to pray.

A young man from a small town in Ohio, drove overnight 500+ miles to participate in a celebration of unity. Although he had few friends back home, he was welcomed into the gathering. He had worn all the right clothes and said all the right things. When the convocation was abruptly canceled, he got back in his car to drive home…until he took a turn back towards town.

The school year was about to start and the local Walmart was packed with thousands of parents and children shopping for school supplies. An all-girl soccer team was outside the front door of the superstore selling drinks and snacks to raise money for the end of summer tournament. A young man who had driven all night parked near them and went in to get a bite to eat.

Seeing the crowds of families, he went back to his car to retrieve his recent purchase. He we walked back towards the lemonade stand.
